Plugin Setup
This guide explains how to complete the initial in-app setup of GRC for Jira after the app has been installed from the Atlassian Marketplace.
The setup process is designed to be completed once by a Jira administrator and prepares the system for end users.
Who should complete this setup
The initial setup is intended for Jira administrators.
Accessing GRC for Jira
After installation, GRC for Jira is available from the Jira Apps menu for all users.
When an administrator opens GRC for Jira for the first time and the system has not yet been configured, the app automatically opens the GRC Overview page.
This page shows the current setup state and guides the administrator toward completing the required configuration.
Overview of the setup process
The initial setup is performed through a single setup wizard.
All required configuration is collected first, and then the system provisions everything in one continuous process. This includes:
Installing the GRC scheme
Creating the first GRC project
The setup flow consists of the following stages:
Providing setup configuration
Reviewing installed modules
Running setup and monitoring progress
Completing setup and assigning access
Starting the Initial Setup Wizard
From the GRC Overview page, click Create GRC Scheme to begin the Initial Setup Wizard.
The wizard guides you step by step through the configuration and provisioning process.
Providing setup configuration
In the first steps of the wizard, you provide all required setup information upfront, including:
Installation language
This language determines how Jira objects created by the GRC scheme will be named.
This is an installation-level choice and is intended to be selected once during setup.Select Installation LanguageInitial GRC project name and key
This project will contain GRC work items such as entities, controls, risks, and assessments.Define initial GRC project name and key
These values are collected in advance and applied automatically during the setup execution.
Reviewing core GRC modules
Before running the setup, the wizard displays an overview of the core GRC modules that will be installed.
This step is informational and helps you understand which functional areas will be available after setup, such as:
Compliance management
Control management and assessments
Risk management
Governance and reporting
No action is required at this stage.
Running the setup and monitoring progress
After confirming the configuration, start the setup execution.
During this phase:
The GRC scheme is installed
The initial GRC project is created
Required Jira configuration is applied
A progress view shows each step as it completes.
If any issues occur, they are clearly displayed so corrective action can be taken.
Setup completion
Once the setup finishes successfully, a completion summary is shown.
This summary confirms:
The selected installation language
The installed GRC scheme version
The created GRC project
At this point, GRC for Jira is fully configured and ready for use.
Assigning access to users
After setup, the next recommended step is to assign GRC roles to users.
Access in GRC for Jira is managed through standard Jira user and group management:
Jira groups are mapped to GRC roles
Group membership determines which GRC features and menu items a user can access
From the Access Setup page, you can open Jira user management and add users to the appropriate groups.
What users see after setup
After setup is complete:
All users can open GRC for Jira from the Jira Apps menu
By default, users are directed to the My GRC items page, which displays dashboards and lists based on their access

Users who want guided onboarding can open the Learning Center from the menu and start role-based learning paths.
